The Land of Stories: Worlds Collide by Chris Colfer (Spoilers)

There is no way I can possibly give a summary of this novel without giving away the previous 5 in the series. If you haven't read any of Chris Colfer's The Land of Stories, then I highly suggest you do. Colfer is, simply put, an amazingly young adult/elementary level author. I honestly feel all ages can enjoy his wonderful fairy tales with a twist series. Moving on...

In Book 6 Worlds Collide, we are introduced to Connor Bailey at the age of 80. He is a successfully beloved children's author speaking at a bookshop to many of his fans. As the questions being asked go on, one little girl gets very personal and asks what happens to his sister Alex. Connor's memory is fading and so he finds himself reflecting back to his literary works to find the answer for himself. So the reader is sent back to the moment book 5 left off. Alex has disappeared from the hospital, along with the hospital bathroom. Connor's literary army, along with Charlotte and Bob, are left trying to discover her whereabouts, figure out a way to stop Lloyd's literary army, recover Froggy from the mirror, and revive the Fairy Council.

Chris Colfer plays with my emotions throughout this whole book. Let me just say that I read the whole thing in one day because I absolutely could not put it down. I did not expect to connect with the characters as I did. Alex and I are kindred spirits, most of the time. I read to escape many things in my reality and a lack of friends is most definitely one of them. I am a perfectionist also, and as my therapist will tell me every time, I can't be expected to please everyone or I'll never be happy. I guess the only thing I can't do is Alex's magic. I can definitely say that I don't have a twin, and I would never feel as comfortable with any of my siblings like Alex and Connor are. But it is so incredibly fascinating to see how those insecurities are portrayed in a fictional character. I said many encouraging things out loud or simply gave advice for Alex and Connor, that it occurred to me that my husband says those same things to me.

For the above reason and that reason alone I rate this book 5 out 5 stars. It is such a beautiful story and everyone could probably do with some magic in their lives.
