I have no idea who was supposed to be the antagonist and who was the protagonist. Ramses started off as a good man, protecting Julie and getting vengeance for her father. However, his character proceeded down a very weird path. He couldn't seem to ignore Cleopatra (which I found odd if he cared for Julie). So he brought her back which then set her off. Why do these characters wake up and start killing others? I can understand an accident especially if they don't know their own strength. But to continue killing everyone. The action made the immortals more vampire than immortalized human.
I can see why people don't like Anne Rice's writing . She does take a long time to come to the point of any descriptions, however I think that just provides more vividness to her scenes and characters. The random asides (thoughts) of the characters just makes them more real to me. I must have a million and one random thoughts a day so why shouldn't a fictional character?
Overall I have to rate this 3 out of 5 stars. I don't think it is a book that I will want to repeat but I have it just in case. I also feel I should end with this one desire. Will someone please please PLEASE write an immortal story where the immortal acts like a grownup and not a teenage drama queen, or a deranged psycho, or even a slight madman?! Many of these stories have these characters as thousands of years old and I have a 9 year old nephew who acts more mature than them.
