I fell really far behind on my Steve Berry reads as well as another favorite author. So my dad took me to the Book Loft of German Village in Columbus, Ohio (if you haven't gone, GO!!!) and bought me the ones I had been missing.
Cotton Malone is pulled back into action when a long lost wagon expedition is discovered in Utah. In D.C., a U.S. Senator is involved with an elder in the Mormon church to reveal the secrets of that same expedition and its connection with the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. Soon Cotton and his friends are racing across the United States and Europe to protect the future of the United States of America. But how is Cassiopeia intimately connected to all of this? And how badly will it damage them all?
I love Cotton, Cassiopeia, Stephanie, and Danny Daniels. I loved them in The Templar Legacy and they have continued to bring joy to my life. There is something very real and no nonsense about them that makes reading so simple. I know what to expect out of those characters and they never ever let someone they care about down. The ending did bother me a little but I kind of expected it to happen. I'm just wondering how long it will last.
As for the history, Steve Berry is a genius. It is so well-researched that the storyline seems incredibly plausible. I always enjoy reading Berry's afterword, mainly to see what he took liberties with. Steve Berry will always apply the afterword so individuals know the difference between truth and fiction. The history he writes about is so in-depth that I cannot help but wonder if reading his books is better than an actual history class.
Overall I rated this book 5out of 5 stars, and have the next book waiting in the wings.
