Not Your Crush's Cauldron by April Asher

Olive Maxwell is 1/3 of the Maxwell witch sisters. Her fellow triplets, Rose and Violet, take part of the supernatural world, but Olive is content to teaching about it. In an attempt to move outside her comfort zone, Olive partakes with her college students in their Dare I Docket assignment. Her new roommate Bax Donovan agrees to work through the list with her.

Bax Donovan, Guardian Angel, is one broken rule away from losing his job. When he’s been assigned to Olive Maxwell, he wonders if the universe is out to get him. The unbroken rule? Don’t fall in love with your Assignment. But it might be too late for that.

I didn’t read the first two novels in this series, so I didn’t know much about Olive’s family outside of meeting them here. I love the relationship of the triplets and their friend, Harper. I really hope the next novel is from Harper’s POV, but I don’t want the obvious love choice for her. I loved the way the whole group, soul-mates included, rallied around both Olive and Bax when it was needed.

The buildup of Olive and Bax’s relationship, however, was a little too slow for me. I wanted them both to act like grownups and move it along. In that regard, I felt like Harper trying to give them a nudge. There was a lot of flirting and innuendo, but then they would second-guess themselves and it was back to step one.

Overall, I rate this novel 4 out of 5 stars.
