Can I start by saying the main reason why I didn't start reading this series sooner was because of the creepy children pictures on each cover. Don't get me wrong, the pictures are all beautiful but even I know that there is a creepiness to them that makes my skin crawl. Kids in general are scary enough. These enhance that.
So here we are, seemingly at the end. If you read the previous book and my previous blog then you know what is going on. If you haven't, do so now.
Jacob, Emma, and Addison must find their way through London to rescue their friends. Jacob is still struggling with his powers, and the hollowgasts and wights appear to have everything they need. So our three remaining heroes must find a way to the Devil's Acre, literal hell on earth. A punishment loop that the wights now use as their base of operations. Here we see peculiars selling their powers, and sometimes their sanity, just to survive in the slums. We are also introduced to Miss Peregrine's other brother Bentham, his Panlooptican, and a very dangerous drug called Ambrosia.
Ransom Riggs' third novel had a certain Harry Potter feel to it. Harry Potter used souls as important to why and how Voldemort was able to survive for so long. Souls in Peculiardom are the corner stone to a person's "peculiar" power. Souls in both universes could be fragmented and split into other things: Harry Potter was objects that become horcruxes, and Peculiardom was a drug and jars. Either way, both books do a phenomenal (pun intended) job was dragging the reader's soul into that universe and rooting on our protagonists.
I rate this novel 5 out of 5 stars, and cannot wait for the next book. I have already preordered it and will add it to this list as soon as I can. Creepy pictures and all.
