Rain Wilmot has started a book club, and the first novel is Agatha Christie’s Sparkling Cyanide. The discussion gets heated, and Rain convinces her best friend Julia that they should check on Lily the next day. Make sure there are no hard feelings. There, they find Lily’s body and
I’m still annoyed by Rain being a passive pushover with Julia, but a strong stand your ground with the killer. I really wished she talked more to Jace, but I am excited to finally see that development. While I love the friendship that Julia and Rain have, I hope the relationship with Jace brings more of a 3 Musketeers and less of the Dastardly Duo.
Rain now has a dog. I will say that I found this part lacking. I don’t know anyone who gets a dog and doesn’t talk about or have them around for the first 24 hours. Benzo the Siberian Husky was more of a passing thought. His mannerisms also seemed off especially in light of his breed. I hope this is fleshed out more in the next novel.
As for the mystery, I suspected the killer from the beginning. I’ve read Sparkling Cyanide, but I also read hundreds of mystery novels a year. Despite knowing, I still found that everything flowed smoothly and there were no loose ends.
Overall, I rate this novel 4 out of 5 stars.
